VIDEO: Law & Order showrunner René Balcer makes a multimillion-dollar bequest to Concordia
Emmy Award–winning writer, director and producer René Balcer, BA 78, LLD 08, and his wife, Carolyn Hsu, have made a multimillion-dollar planned gift to support Concordia’s Department of Communication Studies — the program where Balcer first discovered the collaborative spirit and creative relationships that shaped his career.
Best known for his influential work on Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and FBI: Most Wanted, Balcer helped define the modern television procedural. The couple’s generosity will also establish and support the René Balcer Archives at Concordia, preserving decades of creative work for research, teaching and public access.
Find out more about how this landmark bequest will enrich one of Canada’s leading communication and media programs — and help launch future writers, filmmakers and media innovators.
