After record attendance at last fall’s Open House and Portfolio Day, Concordia is once again throwing open its doors to prospective students on Sunday, February 12.

“The new year is the natural time for future students to start making plans — and we think getting a sense of the vibe on campus is the perfect way to fuel your dreams and academic goals,” says recruitment manager Savvy Papayiannis.

This will be the first time the university has held two Open House events in the same academic year. In past years in February, recruiters focused on helping students complete their applications ahead of the March 1 deadline, as part of Admissions Information Day.

“Our visitors told us they really want to learn more about Concordia as a whole when they’re on campus,” says Papayiannis. “Our focus now is on letting future students experience what it’s like to be a Concordian — as well as helping them with their applications.”

Prospective students from further afield, who can’t be in Montreal for Open House, can have their questions about admissions answered in real time through the Concordia University Future Students Facebook page.

“What can I do with my major?” — a popular offering from last fall’s Open House — will be making a comeback. Prospective students will be able to sit down with a career advisor to talk about their program and the jobs it could lead to.

What if you’re not sure what to choose as a major? “At Concordia, you’re not necessarily obliged to have it all figured out from the beginning,” says student recruitment officer Matthew Fishman.

“There’s a built-in flexibility to many of our programs, so you can take courses in a variety of areas and use your first year as a chance to explore.”

Applicants to undergraduate studies can choose up to three programs — a wealth of options that calls for some strategic thinking. Fishman’s presentation, “Using your program choices wisely,” will help prospective students increase their chances of being offered admission.

Those planning to attend Open House and Portfolio Day are asked to register ahead of time to receive a personalized suggested itinerary of the day’s events.
