Earth Hour is fast approaching, and Concordia is on board again this year.

On Saturday, March 29, the university will join communities, households and businesses around the world in shutting off non-essential lighting from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. as a demonstration of its commitment to the planet. Necessary lighting, including that in the libraries, will not be affected.

Staff and faculty will be asked to shut down their computers on Friday, March 28 before they leave for the weekend. Concordians are also encouraged to mark the occasion by turning off lighting at home.

Organized by the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour is an international grassroots movement created to raise awareness of environmental problems. It began as in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, and now attracts participation in more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide.

If you have questions about Earth Hour at Concordia, please contact the Service Centre at 514-848-2424, ext. 2400, or service2400@concordia.ca.
