New year, new elevators for Guy-Metro Building

Upgrades will improve wait times
February 7, 2014

Much anticipated upgrades to the elevators in the Guy-Metro (GM) Building are about to get underway. The renovations will not only mean faster service for staff in the GM Building, but improved efficiency as well. A keypad on the ground floor will allow passengers to select their desired floor, and be assigned to a designated elevator.

Signage will also be added outside the cabins on each floor, indicating which floor each elevator is currently on, eliminating the guesswork as to not only when an elevator will arrive, but more precisely, how many elevators are in service.

The first phase of the work involves preparation and installation of the new mechanics of the elevator doors. Next, installation of the new elevators begins with elevator #4 (the closest to De Maisonneuve Boulevard West), followed by elevators #3, #2 and #1 (the elevator closest to the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex).

Although there may be periods of time that two elevators will be concurrently out of service, wait times are expected to be brief since the remaining elevators will be using the new floor designation system and will also be running at a much quicker speed.
