Living Your Legacy: Stephen Lewis, Craig Kielberger, join David Suzuki

Keynote speakers address youth summit on community engagement

MONTREAL, April 27, 2011 – On April 28, Stephen Lewis, Craig Kielburger and the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean will address Living Your Legacy: A Youth Summit on Community Engagement at the Palais des Congrès. Lewis, the former United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa and the co-founder and co-director of AIDS-Free World, joins Kielburger, the founder and chair of Free The Children, on the growing list of distinguished keynote speakers at the day-long event.

The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, the Former Governor-General , currently UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti and Co-President of the Michaëlle Jean Foundation, will also give a video address.  Jean-Daniel Lafond, the Co-President and CEO of the Michaëlle Jean Foundation, will also take the stage along with the world-renowned Canadian environmentalist Dr. David Suzuki.

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, will no longer be able to attend the conference since his diplomatic expertise is required on a peace mission to the Ivory Coast.

The multi-disciplinary conference, organized by Youth Action Montreal in partnership with Concordia University, will also spotlight young leaders who have made a difference in their Montreal communities and beyond. This conference aims to spark inspiration and support the commitment of young people to meet some of the great challenges of their time by promoting "local action, global results".

"We are extremely honoured and privileged to have Stephen Lewis, Craig Kielberger, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean and Jean-Daniel Lafond address participants at our conference,” says Youth Action Montreal's conference director Amine Dabchy.

Youth Action Montreal's co-founder and president, Peter Schiefke, points out, “The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean once said “I believe in the power of ideas and I believe in empowering people,” and we know that this is exactly what she will do.”
