Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • Louellyn White, assistant professor in the School of Community and Public Affairs (SCPA) is quoted in an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, reprised by Stars and Stripes, about efforts to return the remains of Sioux, Arapaho and Cheyenne children to their tribal lands in South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. The remains are buried in a U.S. army cemetery, on land that was occupied by a Christian missionary boarding school for native children, during the late-nineteenth century.
  • Lea Prevel Katsanis, professor in the Department of Marketing, is paraphrased in articles in the New York Stock Exchange Post and Lidtime about the appearance of outgoing Valeant Pharmaceuticals CEO Michael Pearson at last week's U.S. Senate special committee on drug price increases.
  • Winnipeg Free Press reprises an earlier piece by Kathleen O'Grady in which the Simone de Beauvoir Institute research associate explains why she writes in the mainstream media about parenting a child with autism.
  • Marguerite Mendell, professor and graduate program director in the School of Community and Public Affairs, is mentioned in two articles in the April newsletter of the Global Social Economy Forum — GSEF (no links available): the first article mentions Mendell's participation in a recent meeting of the GSEF in Korea and her talks to local Korea government representatives. There is also mention of a seminar organized by the Karl Polanyi Research Institute Asia; the second article features Concordia's Karl Polanyi Institute of Political Economy, of which Mendell is director.
  • Huffington Post, writing about how people can find a workout to suit their personality, quotes James Gavin, professor in the Department of Applied Human Sciences, from an earlier Huffington Post article on the same subject.
  • Concordia Strength and Conditioning coach and former Stinger women's hockey player Lisa-Marie Breton-Lebreux is quoted in articles in L'Éclaireur Progrès and EnBeauce.com about a recent women's and girls' hockey tournament in Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, where she gave a conference.
