Undergraduate students in ARTH 354 Interdisciplinary Studies in Visual Arts formed curatorial teams to draw from their own field of studies and art practices to investigate the multiple meanings associated with scenography as a visual and spatial art form, and to consider its implications socially, politically, and aesthetically within historical and contemporary practices.
What is Scenography? is an exhibition by undergraduate students in art history, art education, print media, sculpture, film studies, studio arts, cyber and media arts. The work represented in this exhibition expands the discourse of scenography by addressing diverse subjects such as public space, spectatorship and identity, gender and the built environment, the role of scenography in digital media, exhibition practices and strip clubs, and scenography as a framework for community development.
