Have you ever experienced one or more traumatic events solely due to racism or racial discrimination? Being a Black person or ethnic minority in North America often leads to an array of negative and harmful race-related experiences and stressors. An accumulation of stress related to racism and discrimination can significantly impact our emotional and physiological well-being, yet we are rarely taught how to heal from racial trauma or understand how it can affect our mind, body, and spirit.

Whether you’ve experienced racial trauma or want to deepen your understanding as an ally, this workshop will explore trauma and racial trauma, including their impacts, while introducing different approaches to healing.

Takeaways

  • Understanding the 8 forms of trauma
  • Gaining increased awareness about the impact of racial trauma and how it was born from slavery and the social construction of race
  • Identifying practices for healing from racially traumatizing experiences
