Concordia’s Applied AI Institute has struck a working group, called Affecting Machines. This workshop aims to introduce participants to ways in which feminist design principles can be applied in AI research and development environments. Sabrina Ward-Kimola, Mohsen Monji and Juliette de Lamberterie, researchers in the fields of critical/feminist theory, science and technology studies (STS) and sociology, will present and discuss a set of normative principles for gender equity in AI. 

Researchers and practitioners of all backgrounds, particularly students and professionals in machine learning and related fields, are welcome to attend and participate in this interactive workshop. We will further reflect on how to think about and develop AI systems that are more inclusive, equitable, non-discriminatory, and socially responsible. By bridging the gap among disciplines, this opportunity allows participants to further develop critical thinking within applied AI contexts.

The Applied AI Institute will provide participants with a certificate of participation. ASL interpretation will be online. 

Please note while this workshop will be mostly in English, if you prefer French this can be accommodated. There will also be ASL interpretation.
