Exuberant Botanica workshop

Join artist Aaron McIntosh for a series of participatory workshops unfolding this fall alongside his exhibition 𝑯𝒐𝒕 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 / 𝑴𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒆 in the Main Space. 

In this workshop, participants are asked to consider the histories of herbal remedies and imagine a speculative herb that might heal a modern confliction of queer identity. For example, what would be an herbal plant that could protect one from homophobia, or an herb that could produce hormone therapies naturally? Participants will draw or write about their speculative herb using a “materia medica” worksheet, and then work with the artist and assistants to create a simple version of it in paper, fabric, wire and adornments to be added to the greenhouse.

Participants will be gifted a copy of the project zine to take home. The gallery is wheelchair accessible.

Rejoignez l’artiste Aaron McIntosh pour une série d’ateliers participatifs qui se dérouleront cet automne parallèlement à son exposition 𝑯𝒐𝒕 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 / 𝑴𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒆 dans l’espace principal. 

Dans cet atelier, les participant·e·s sont invité·e·s à réfléchir à l'histoire des remèdes à base de plantes et à imaginer une plante spéculative qui pourrait guérir un conflit moderne lié à l'identité queer. Par exemple, quelle plante pourrait protéger quelqu'un de l'homophobie, ou quelle plante pourrait produire naturellement des traitements hormonaux ? Les participant·e·s dessineront ou écriront à propos de leur plante hypothétique à l'aide d'une fiche « materia medica », puis travailleront avec l'artiste et les assistant·e·s pour en créer une version simplifiée en papier, tissu, fil de fer et ornements qui sera ajoutée à la serre.

Les participant·e·s recevront également un copie du zine du projet à emporter chez eux. La galerie est accessible en fauteuil roulant.
