Students are invited to attend a public conversation entitled The Indian Act – Today and Tomorrow.

This public conversation will feature:

  • Minister Mandy Gull-Masty, the Minister of Indigenous Services of Canada (ISC).
    Minister Gull-Masty was previously the Grand Chief of the Cree Nation Government in Quebec and is a graduate of Concordia University’s School of Community and Public Affairs.
  • Ghislain Picard, former Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL) from 1992 to 2025.
    Ghislain Picard was Concordia University’s expert-in-residence in the Political Science graduate program in Public Policy and Public Administration.
  • Joe Deom, Bear Clan Elder of the Kahnawà:ke Longhouse.
    Joe Deom is a member of the Haudenosaunee External Relations Committee (HERC), which works to manage rights issues with governments in Canada and in the USA.

This public conversation will include a Q&A. Event hosted by Professor Emanuel Lowi of the First Peoples Studies Program.
