Erasure poetry as inquiry & resistance

What possibilities emerge when we disrupt, rearrange, and reimagine the words of educational texts and policies?

Join us for a two-part workshop series exploring erasure poetry (or blackout poetry) as a creative way to engage critically with educational texts.

Through selectively obscuring and rearranging words from existing texts, you will create original poems that make visible what is emphasized, silenced, assumed, or left unsaid.

No poetry or research experience is required. Materials will be provided, and each workshop will include time for creative work, sharing, and discussion.

Workshop 2: Sex Education Curriculum

At the second workshop on April 6, we’ll turn to Canadian sex education curricula from across the country, using erasure poetry to explore what these texts make visible, and what they leave unsaid.

You will leave with a completed poem and a creative research method you can use for analysis, meaning-making, and critical inquiry.
