Erasure poetry as inquiry & resistance

What possibilities emerge when we disrupt, rearrange, and reimagine the words of educational texts and policies?

Join us for a two-part workshop series exploring erasure poetry (or blackout poetry) as a creative way to engage critically with educational texts.

Through selectively obscuring and rearranging words from existing texts, you will create original poems that make visible what is emphasized, silenced, assumed, or left unsaid.

No poetry or research experience is required. Materials will be provided, and each workshop will include time for creative work, sharing, and discussion.

Workshop 1: Policy & Media

At the first workshop on October 19, we’ll work with Canadian educational policy documents and media articles, exploring how language shapes understandings of youth, teachers, parents, and schools.
