Teaching & Learning Winter Festival 2014 - About
The Power of Curriculum
Sustainability - Learning - Innovation
February 5-6-7, 2014
The CTLS is partnering with the Sustainability Action Fund (SAF) to deliver a sustainability-focused version of the Winter Teaching and Learning Festival. Through our commitment to excellence in teaching and SAF’s pledge to integrating sustainability in the curriculum, The Power of Curriculum Festival promises to inspire new ways to increase the amount of sustainability content in Concordia's curriculum. So what are we hoping to accomplish?
Here are some of the main objectives:
- Support faculty in developing courses that focus on sustainability
- Support faculty in integrating more sustainability-focused content in current courses
- Provide opportunities for instructors to enhance and reflect on their teaching practices
- Create connections and build partnerships across disciplines
- Highlight the importance of integrating questions on sustainability into the curriculum
What will the event look like and what can you expect? The Power of Curriculum Festival will offer a blend of traditional and innovative ways for participating faculty to explore the intersection between integrating sustainability content into their current courses or developing new courses, selecting appropriate pedagogies and enhancing their teaching.
Here are some of the activities you can look forward to:
- A public keynote address open to faculty, staff, students, and the general public on the importance of integrating sustainability into the curriculum.
- A community keynote open to faculty and a few other key stakeholders on best practices (and the challenge of) developing sustainability-focused courses.
- Interdisciplinary panels will focus on a particular theme related to sustainability. Several faculty members will approach a common problem from a different perspective to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of teaching sustainability.
- Informal programming that offers structured way of connecting faculty with similar interests and/or questions
- A consultative World Café conversation targeted at students but also open to faculty, staff, and the general public, inquiring how sustainability should be integrated into the curriculum.
