My favourite thing about Concordia is getting to take part in extracurricular activities like Space Concordia.

What made you want to get involved in the Starsailor project?

I've been fascinated by space since childhood, and following a course in astrophysics in CEGEP, I knew I wanted to work in the space industry. During my university search, I found the Starsailor project and knew I had to get involved. I wanted to work on an extracurricular project that would give me the skills to find my dream job in the industry. I am extremely happy with my decision and it was the adventure of a lifetime.

What has been the most rewarding part of the experience?

As the Business Development lead, I had a unique perspective on the project. The most rewarding part of this experience was seeing the excitement from the Cree community, and especially the youth, about the launch.

A group of Space Concordia members and children from the Cree Nation of Mistissini pose together outdoors on a sunny day. The Space Concordia team, wearing red shirts, stands in the back, while several smiling children stand in front on the grass. One child is playfully being held upside down. Back row, from left: Cameron-Olivia Toupin, Adrian-Ross Sicurella, Owen Bamber, Alice Langlais, Esokia Piché and Emma Lodge of Space Concordia. Front: children from the Cree Nation of Mistissini during community activities held alongside the Starsailor launch.

How has Starsailor shaped your studies or future goals?

The one-of-a-kind experience of launching a space-bound rocket has made me appreciate what I am learning in my degree even more, and I am excited to continue my studies. I intend to carry the knowledge I gained here into future internships and to hopefully pursue a career in the rocket industry.
