Tillitarniit It is said to happen from time to time Inuit Arts Festival
August 2, 3, 4, 2018
FOFA Gallery Courtyard
Tillitarniit is a festival that celebrates Inuit art, film and culture, led by Inuk curator Asinnajaq. "It is said to happen from time to time" is a classic Inuk way to begin a story. The event features Inuit artists, performers, and filmmakers who shape our world today through storytelling. All events are free and open to the public, taking place in the FOFA Gallery Courtyard in vibrant downtown Montreal.
We are proud to exhibit the work of Elisapee Inukpuk in conjunction with this year’s Tillitarniit festival. Elisapee Inukpuk created a large collection of hundreds of intricately-made dolls over many decades, inspired by Inuit stories from across Nunavik. This exhibition runs from July 16 to August 17, 2018 in the York Corridor Vitrines and was put together in partnership with Avataq Cultural Institute. A reception will be held on July 21 to celebrate Elisapee Inukpuk’s art and her legacy. The event will feature a live storytelling event for people of all ages.

"In anticipation of our Tillitarniit festival, we would like to share this work, She Falls For Ages by Skawennati, an artist who was born on Kahnawake Mohawk Territory. This work talks about the origins of Turtle Island, the location where Tillitarniit takes place. Skawennati takes the Haudenosaunee origin story and reimagines it from the position of the future. The theme of this year's Tillitarniit is "It is said to happen from time to time," a phrase which, to me, means that these stories are not of the past, but have the potential to re-occur or unfold constantly. She Falls For Ages so beautifully articulates this notion. I would love to invite you all to please take twenty minutes of your time for this astonishing work."
