This panel explores research creation projects borrowing from and mangling methodologies applied across tissue culture engineering, bioengineering, visual art and art exhibition practices.

Working together in various capacities, the moderator and panel members have developed methodologies for working across the scientific wet lab and art gallery system to explore interrelations between human, microbial and microcellular life. Matheson and Hunter discuss their current work displayed in the FoFA gallery, and reflect on methodologies and processes generated through working "hands-on" with cell culture in the wet lab and public exhibition. Duff and Pelling reflect on the work of Hunter and Matheson and discuss how supervising graduate students and engaging with artists in the institutional context towards a research-creation thesis exhibition presents the need for the "mangling" of current methodologies and processes in research, graduate student training and cross disciplinary collaboration. Hauser will discuss how methodologies and processes emerging from the biological arts challenge modes of display enacted and presented within fine art exhibition venues today.

The vernissage for Biomateria + Contagious Matters will follow the discussion panel.
Thank you to the gracious support from Concordia's Office of the Dean.
