Why study applied human sciences?
The Department of Applied Human Sciences (AHSC) at Concordia aims to improve the quality of life by offering a range of innovative, multidisciplinary programs and experiential learning that explore human relations, recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, community service, family life education, human systems intervention, and youth work.
Our programs
Degrees
Undergraduate programs are Human Relations, Recreation & Leisure Studies, and Therapeutic Recreation.
Our graduate programs are a master's in Human Systems Intervention and a graduate diploma in Youth Work.
Certificates
The undergraduate certificate programs provide additional training to professionals who wish to expand their skillsets. Select from Family Life Education and Community & Organizational Leadership.
Student spotlight
Department of Applied Human Sciences graduate and Stingers captain Jessymaude Drapeau (BA 26) has been named the winner of the Brodrick Trophy as U SPORTS Women's Hockey Player of the Year. Hailing from Rivière-du-Loup, Que., she has also been named one of Concordia's Athletes of the Year at the 2025–26 Stingers gala and received the Michael Di Grappa Award of Distinction, recognizing career excellence over her time as a Stinger.
Jessymaude Drapeau (BA 26), diplômée du département des sciences humaines appliquées et capitaine des Stingers, a remporté le trophée Brodrick, remis à la joueuse de hockey féminin de l'année de U SPORTS. Originaire de Rivière-du-Loup, elle a également été nommée parmi les athlètes de l'année de Concordia lors du gala des Stingers 2025–26. De plus, elle a reçu le prix Michael Di Grappa, qui souligne l'excellence de sa carrière avec les Stingers.
