Big Data Visualization and Storytelling

Course code
CEBD 1251
Duration
30 hours
Data presentations are designed to spark action. But most professionals never learn how to deliver their findings so decision-makers know what to do with the numbers in front of them.
This course teaches you how to create compelling visual narratives from complex data. You’ll learn how to use Tableau, one of the world’s leading visualization platforms, to turn your findings into dashboards, reports, and presentations. You’ll also explore AI tools like Tableau Pulse to accelerate and simplify your workflow so you can influence decisions with greater speed.

Knowledge of Excel and/or SQL is highly recommended. If you do not have knowledge in these areas, we strongly recommend that you take Intro to Data Analysis with Excel (CEBD 1300) and Intro to SQL (CEWP 215).

Note that you will be required to do 5-10 hours of work per week outside of class time. Those with little to no prior
There are no upcoming dates at this time.

Your takeaways

This course is a great way to help you:
• Explain the significance of data visualization in supporting decision-making so you can approach every project with clearer purpose

• Apply decluttering and highlighting techniques to produce clean visuals that emphasize key findings and improve information retention
• Build interactive dashboards that help decision-makers find and act on important information
• Present data findings as stories that guide stakeholders towards decisions
• Use AI tools to generate visualizations and learn how to evaluate when outputs can be trusted and when they need refinement

Our approach

In this course, you'll gain real-world knowledge, experience and insights through lectures from experienced pros who'll show you the ropes. More excitingly, you'll learn through hands-on projects using the very latest software like data transformation tools, NoSQL and Hadoop, Data Visualization and Data Storytelling tools. You can't get skills like this on YouTube. This course is designed for the students to meet regularly during live synchronous learning in an online virtual classroom (Zoom).
