Azalea Uva

Current degree: BSc Biochemistry (graduating June 2020)

Research interests

My research interests lie in the chemical synthesis of functionalized nucleic acids for conjugation to block co-polymers to further our understanding of drug delivery.

Previous work

Throughout my undergraduate degree, I have had diverse research experiences. I received an NSERC USRA while being an Inorganic Chemistry Exchange student at the University of British Columbia working on the synthesis of pi-conjugated polymers for fluorescent applications. The following year, I worked at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) at Université de Montréal where I studied GTPases in mammalian cells by in-cell NMR. Recently, I have completed my Honours thesis in the Wilds lab. With these experiences, I have developed a passion for bioorganic chemistry. In September 2020, I will be pursuing a PhD in chemistry at the University of Toronto.

Selected awards and scholarships

  • NSERC USRA (2018)
  • Best presenter at the 14th Inorganic Chemistry Exchange Conference (2018)
  • Bellini Foundation Co-operative Education Award (2019)

Other interests

Baking, hiking, and watching reruns of Brooklyn Nine-nine.
