Alexander Pontarelli

Current degree: BSc Chemistry (pursuing MSc Chemistry)

Research interests

My research interests lie in the chemical synthesis of modified nucleosides at the sugar and base moiety for oligonucleotide incorporation. These modifications are designed to enhance duplex stability and we will assess their ability as antisense therapeutic candidates.

Previous work

Throughout my undergraduate degree, I received two Concordia Undergraduate Student Research Awards allowing me to conduct research in the Wilds lab. In my last year of my BSc., I completed my Honours thesis in the Wilds lab. With these experiences, I have developed a passion of nucleic acid research and have decided to continue with the Wilds group for my MSc.

Selected awards and scholarships

  • CUSRA (2017 and 2018)
  • Canadian Society for Chemistry Silver Medal (2018)
  • ACS Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry (2018)

Other interests
