Advising materials

Students are expected to take charge of planning their own schedule to prepare for meeting with an advisor. Consult the appropriate advising materials to help you forecast your studies in the department including checklists, pre-requisite flowcharts and more.

Most courses in the department require you to take a seminar and pass a quiz on academic integrity for your coursework. 

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

You are eligible to request a lab exemption if you are repeating a course that you took no more than two years ago for which you passed the lab component. Consult the policy.

To request a lab exemption

  1. Fill in the departmental lab exemption request form.
  2. Submit the form to chemistry.reception@concordia.ca by the deadline.

Deadline to submit lab exemptions

  • Summer term courses: May 
  • Fall term courses: September 
  • Winter term courses: January

You'll need to get in touch with the department by filling out a student request form to:

  • Add or remove a Minor
  • Change program (Major, Specialization or Honours)
  • Change to Chemistry or Biochemistry from another Science department

To change from Chemistry or Biochemistry to another department's program, please see an advisor in the other department.

Please note the eligibility requirements:

  • Honours: Acceptable standing is a GPA of 3.3 or higher in program courses and overall with 24 Concordia credits completed.  
  • Specialization: Acceptable standing is a GPA of 2.0 or higher in program courses with 24 Concordia credits completed.  

If you think you have done one or more program courses elswhere that have not been added during admission, consult the requirements for transfer credits.

You must also include lab information and a list of lab experiments to be considered for credit for a Concordia course with a lab component.
