Each year, the Department recognises undergraduate students with outstanding academic achievements. Learn more about the awards and meet past recipients.
Awards eligibility & criteria
Each year, undergraduate students enrolled in Chemistry and Biochemistry programs of concentration are eligible to win one of these awards offered by the department.
Enrolled Chemistry and Biochemistry students are automatically considered for awards, and a departmental committee chooses the award recipients based on criteria of outstanding student performance and achievement.
Lenoir Book Prize
Awarded in recognition for highest achievement in Organic Chemistry 324 and 325, this prize is given to the student with the highest Organic III and IV (Chem 324-325) grades in the last academic year.
The prize is a $150 gift certificate for the Concordia Bookstore.
Marcus Lawrence Award
Two in-course scholarships valued at $500 each are awarded in recognition for highest achievement for full or part-time undergraduate students in their final year of study in the department's co-op program.
- The award is non-renewable
- Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students
Michael Glazerman Scholarship
One in-course scholarship valued at $1,000 will be awarded to a part-time student studying in the department's Honours or Specialization programs, with 12 or more Chemistry/ Biochemistry program credits completed and a minimum program GPA of 3.7
- The award is non-renewable
- Open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students
Canada Society for Chemistry (CSC) Silver Medal Award in Chemistry & Biochemistry
A silver medal will be awarded to an undergraduate student with the highest academic standing among all the students entering their final year of study within Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Chemical Institute of Canada (SCI-CIC) Graduating Student Merit Award in Biochemistry & Chemistry
A silver medal will be awarded to a graduating student with the highest academic standing among all the students entering their final year of study within Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Chemistry Award of Excellence - Year 1, 2 and 3
Awarded in recognition for highest achievement in a Chemistry program.
Year 1
Selection is based on having the highest GPA among students having completed 24 to 30 credits completed in a 90 credit (or 54 to 60 credits in a 120 credit) program in Chemistry, equivalent to 2-3 terms of full-time study.
Year 2
Selection is based on having the highest GPA among students having completed 54 to 60 credits in a 90 credit (or 84 to 90 credits in a 120 credit) program in Chemistry, such that 2-3 terms of full-time study remain (key criterion).
Year 3
Selection is based on having the highest GPA among students who have graduated the previous year.
Biochemistry Award of Excellence - Year 1, 2 and 3
Awarded in recognition for highest achievement in a Biochemistry program.
Year 1
Selection is based on having the highest GPA among students having completed 24-30 credits completed in a 90 credit (or 54-60 credits in a 120 credit) program in Biochemistry, equivalent to 2-3 terms of full-time study.
Year 2

Co-op Award of Excellence - Year 1.5 and 2.5
Awarded in recognition for highest achievement in both the Co-op and Career Edge Chemistry/Biochemistry programs.
Year 1.5
Selection is based on having the highest GPA among students having completed 24 to 36 credits.
Year 2.5
Selection is based on having the highest GPA among students having completed 48 to 60 or 70 credits.
