CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS
July 2 – 14, 2019
Research-Creation, Creative Practices and Meaning-Making
Early summer is synonymous with circus fever in Montreal as the city vibrates to the rhythm of Montréal Complètement Cirque! During the first two weeks of July, 4TH SPACE put the spotlight on innovative ways of thinking about contemporary circus.
As part of an interdisciplinary seminar led by Concordia professor Louis Patrick Leroux, 25 students, researchers, and practitioners from a dozen different countries explored the creative process and investigated the intersection of academic and artistic pursuits.
Visitors shared in this unique opportunity to learn how circus happens beyond the performative and spectacular and peek behind the curtain of research-creation, participate in a feature presentation, or partake in ongoing discussions about this multifaceted art form.
