Alan Conter is an independent media consultant, writer, director/producer and critic. He has taught journalism ethics & law since 2001 and has also taught advanced video journalism and introduction to broadcast. A former executive-producer for CBC Radio, he co-created the seminal program Brave New Waves and has written and produced over 15 hour-long radio documentaries for the CBC'S Ideas and Radio-Canada's Des Idées plein la tête (La Chaîne culturelle). He is also a producer/director on the LGBT Purge Fund Oral History, working with SandBay Entertainment and Know History. Evolving notions of freedom of expression in Canada are a central concern and he's currently working on a book on the topic.
