Strong writing and storytelling skills are essential to cutting through the noise.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn practical writing techniques to capture and hold a reader’s attention. We’ll cover how to write a compelling hook, make a strong and coherent argument, use vivid and varied language and keep your audience in mind at every step. You’ll put pen to paper right away and work with others to strengthen your writing in a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere.
Clear, engaging and authentic writing is a transferable skill you can use across your academic, professional and personal life—from social media posts and cover letters to personal websites and blogs.

When we turn towards each other as racialized people(s) to encounter joy, trust, and belonging, we generate an energy to resist discrimination and respond to isolation, division, and despair. This presentation will share the process of allyship and anti-racism work by coming alongside communities through arts-based care practices.
The presentation will reflect on what culturally safe and trauma informed community care practice looks like with diverse Muslim communities through art therapy and participatory interactive theatre practice, such as playback theatre. Community care offers a framework as a response to collectively experienced trauma by racialized individuals that considers the individual and collective needs as a whole.
Participants will be invited to reflect on their role in their communities and ways they can support in allyship through the arts. Through interactive playback theatre practice and art reflection, we will create a space for discussion about the challenges and joys of working within our own communities and with allied communities.
Lucy Lu is a Chinese-Vietnamese Canadian Art Therapist, counselling therapist, and artist. Through her different practices of Red Threads Art Therapy and Third Space Playback Theatre Edmonton, she works with diverse cultural communities supporting healing, dialogue and countering discrimination through fostering a sense of belonging through the arts.

It's not talked about enough, but to succeed as an artist, you need to be able to talk about your art. Whether you're responding to calls for proposals, applying for residencies, applying to university, or seeking grants, you always need to put what you do in writing. This workshop/discussion aims to provide tips for truly communicating the essence of your art without resorting to clichés.
Céline Bureau is a residency for emerging artists in Montreal. In addition to its artistic programming, it offers services to help artists launch their careers. This workshop will be led by Hugo Dufour, co-founder of Céline Bureau, a former artist and curator who has been working to support artists for over nine years.
