Provincial elections 2026

The Quebec provincial elections take place on October 5, 2026. 

Concordia is hosting advance polling stations on both campuses for students, faculty and staff. On election day, polling stations are reserved for voters assigned to the Westmount–Saint-Louis district.

Advance polling for the Concordia community 

Concordia is one of several post-secondary campuses in Montreal to host early on-campus voting. All eligible students, faculty and staff are welcome to vote on campus on the dates listed below, regardless of their district.

Advance polling for the Westmount–Saint-Louis district

Members of the public whose voter information card lists the EV Building (Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex, 1515 Ste-Catherine St. W.) as their advance polling station are able to vote on campus.

  • Sunday, September 27, between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Monday, September 28, between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Election Day for the Westmount–Saint-Louis district

Only voters from the Westmount–Saint-Louis electoral district are able to vote on campus on election day. 

Voting date and time: 

  • Monday, October 5, 2026, from 9:30 a.m to 8 p.m

These polling stations are only for people whose voter information card indicates that their assigned polling station is one of the locations listed above.

If you are eligible to vote on campus on election day, please check your voter information card closely to verify which building is your designated voting location. Different sections of the Westmount-Saint Louis electoral district are assigned to different locations.

Election day arrangements

Classes and instructional activities are cancelled on October 5

Under the Québec Election Act, students are given the day off to vote.This means all instructional activities at Concordia, including day and evening classes, tutorials, labs and studio sessions are cancelled on Monday, October 5, 2026.

  • Concordia buildings and libraries will remain open.
  • Class make-up date: Tuesday, December 8, 2026

Classes and other academic activities normally held on October 5 will take place on December 8, at their regularly scheduled times and in their usual classrooms. Professors are responsible for notifying their students of these arrangements.

Four hours to vote for faculty and staff

Under the Québec Election Act, faculty and staff are entitled to take four consecutive hours to vote. Concordia will close its administrative offices at 4 p.m. on October 5, to provide faculty and staff with the required time to vote. 

Employees whose regular work hours fall outside 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. should communicate with their managers to ensure they receive the required four consecutive hours off to vote.

Concordia students, faculty and staff are welcome to vote at either campuses during the advance polling period, regardless of their district on the following dates:

  • Friday, September 25, between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, September 29, between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, September 30, between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, October 1, between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Yes, the university will remain open during advance polling unless otherwise specified. Instructional activities will remain the same. 

Yes, the university will remain open on election day until 4 p.m. unless otherwise specified but all instructional activities at Concordia will be cancelled on Monday, October 5, 2026. This includes day and evening classes, tutorials, labs and studio sessions.

Professors are responsible for notifying their students about whether classes or other academic activities, normally held on October 5, are to be rescheduled on December 8.

Faculty and staff must be provided with four consecutive hours to vote during a provincial election. As such, Concordia will close at 4 p.m. on October 5, 2026. Election day polls will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Employees who work hours outside of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. should communicate with their managers to ensure they have the required four hours off to vote.
