Interpreting in double time: L’Homme invisible/The Invisible Man at the theatre

My presentation will examine different forms of interpretation in two versions (Franco-Ontarian and Anglo-Montreal) of the heterolingual production L’Homme invisible/The Invisible Man, a stage adaptation of Patrice Desbiens’ collection of poems. When the Franco-Ontarian poetic work is interpreted to become a work of Franco-Ontarian theatre, then staged in an Anglo-Montreal context, what issues come into play in these interpretations or “transfictions”? This is the question I will attempt to answer in my exploration of the fictions of translation in different versions of L’Homme invisible/The Invisible Man, thus also raising issues about the translation (intersemiotic, intercommunity) of works of fiction already marked by translation.
