Finding strength in diversity
Diversity is a strength that is critical to Concordia’s mission. With diversity comes the need to ensure that the experiences of all students are equitable and inclusive. One of Concordia’s ongoing challenges in this area is a lack of institutional data.
Collecting and analyzing demographic information is an essential first step for the university to meaningfully address student underrepresentation and examine institutional barriers that may prevent students from fully participating in university life.
Close to 8,000 students participated in the 2023 census, providing a wealth of helpful information.
Scope and purpose
Since 2022, the Equity Office has collected demographic data to examine underrepresentation and address institutional barriers that may prevent students from fully participating in university life.
Given its focus on structural barriers and issues around accessing and continuing higher education, the census covers race, sexual orientation, gender, spirituality and faith, socioeconomic status, and other aspects of identity.
Privacy and confidentiality
Participation in the census is completely voluntary, confidential and anonymous. Concordia treats student information with the strictest of confidence and responses are only used to produce aggregate results.
Thank you for your participation in this important university exercise.
