Concordia Chancellor L. Jacques Ménard — a champion of education and proponent of the creative city model — has been named chairman of the board of directors of Montréal International (MI).

Ménard, BComm 67, LLD 06, chairman of BMO Nesbitt Burns and president of the BMO Financial Group, Québec, spearheaded the Je Vois Montréal initiative, which called upon citizens to submit ideas for improving the city.

His term as Concordia Chancellor, which began in 2011, ends December 31.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome L. Jacques Ménard as chairman of the board of Montréal International, an organization whose mission is to promote Greater Montreal’s economic development and enhance its international status,” said Dominique Anglade, president and CEO of Montréal International.

Montréal International (MI) was created in 1996, the result of a private-public partnership.

“With L. Jacques Ménard as the chairman of its board of directors, I am convinced that MI will reach new heights,” said Denis Coderre, mayor of Montreal and president of the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal. “Mr. Ménard is a passionate and a rallying leader; he has the attention of decision makers at the political, business and community level.”

“Montréal International is our region at its best. It’s hundreds of partners, municipalities, governments and businesses joining forces to shine a global spotlight on Greater Montreal,” said Ménard.

“Every year, Montréal International attracts foreign investments, jobs and talent to the region,” he continues. “What we have here is a state-of-the-art development agency that helps put Greater Montreal on the map and generate wealth for the region. Today, we want to send the message that we will have more audacity,” he added.
