Created in 1995, the award recognizes unpaid community involvement. Governor General David Johnston presented the honour to 46 recipients at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on April 7.

“Each of you is here today for a simple reason: you care about the well-being of others, and you have acted on that feeling,” said Johnston at the ceremony.

Loffreda has chaired galas that benefited the Montreal Heart Institute, the Jewish General Hospital and the Kidney Foundation of Canada among others.

“There is no better feeling than knowing you’ve helped someone or made a difference,” says Loffreda. “Giving becomes part of who you are.”

An executive at the Royal Bank of Canada, Loffreda was a volunteer judge at the John Molson MBA International Case competition in 2012. He was a corporate member of the John Molson School of Business advisory board from 2012 to 2013.

Loffreda adds this distinction to a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, also presented by the Governor General, in 2012.
