What does a director do?
The board of directors exercises full control and has responsibility for all activities, projects and policies of the CUAA as well as its finances, and is accountable to alumni and the university. The board holds approximately five meetings per year and one annual general meeting. Directors chair or sit on one or more committees and participate in one strategic planning session per year. They are also asked to represent the association at various alumni and student events. To learn more, please consult the CUAA by-laws.
Why should I become a board member?
CUAA board members are the voice of alumni and play an important role in shaping Concordia’s future. Experience the rewards of giving back to your alma mater. Help Concordia, our students and your alumni association by getting involved as a board member.

“Besides giving back, I have built strong relationships with successful directors in our community while developing leadership skills that have become essential to my personal and professional growth.”
-- Philippe Pourreaux, BComm 00, President
“It is a pleasure to give back to my alma mater. I have great memories of my time at Concordia as a student and I am enjoying my time on the board just as much, if not more. I have met fascinating people and have established new friendships, all while doing work for the association. And the Hall Building escalators even work now!”
-- Jeff Bicher, BA 02, Treasurer and Representative to the Concordia University Board of Governors
“I graduated from Loyola in 1972 and have been on the board of the CUAA since 1999. Volunteering my time and expertise in support of the university, its students and alumni has been far more rewarding for me personally than the time I may have spent in meetings. I have met wonderful alumni who care enough about Concordia to get involved and whose actions and enthusiasm inspire me to be a better person.
-- Francesco Ciampini, L BA 72, Corporate Secretary and Representative to the Concordia University Board of Governors
“More than ever, in a time of rapid globalization, Concordia plays a key role connecting community, career and success. As a CUAA board member, I partake in not only the making of decisions that are pivotal to the success of my alma mater, but also in developing an environment that fosters continuous commitment among current students and alumni, ultimately advancing the cause of higher education within our community.”
-- Sherin Al-Safadi, MBA 10, Director
“Becoming a director on the CUAA board has enabled me to understand the high-level decision structure of a large organization. It has afforded me the opportunity to hone my diplomatic skills, interact with top level industry professionals and contribute to the advancement of my alma mater.”
-- Jameson Jones-Doyle, BA 08, Director
“Thanks to my involvement with the CUAA, I’ve never left the university community. Concordia is a big part of me; it’s the place where I grew up and learned most about myself -- personally and professionally. I look forward to working with other Concordia alumni to create events and special projects catered specifically for young alumni.”
-- Ven Virahsammy, BComm 10, Director
