Alumna to lead Canadian Commission for UNESCO
Myriam Montrat, MA 98, will step into a new role on February 11 as secretary-general of the Canadian Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Ottawa.
Montrat had been director general of the Discrimination Prevention Branch at the Canadian Human Rights Commission, where she collaborated with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
A federal government veteran, she also represented the Canadian Human Rights Commission at the United Nations Human Rights Council, was a director at Industry Canada and worked at the Privy Council Office. Montrat also has experience in the private sector as a consultant on international issues.
She earned an MA in public policy and public administration from Concordia in 1998 and holds a BA in International Relations from Colby College, Maine.
Under the Canada Council for the Arts, the Canadian Commission for UNESCO coordinates UNESCO activities in Canada and mobilizes Canadian organizations and individuals in education, natural and social sciences, culture and communication and information.
