Kaylah Barrett ends Stingers' all-Canadian drought
Kaylah Barrett, a second-year guard with the Stingers, is the first Concordia women's basketball player in 35 years to be named to the CIS first all-Canadian team.
The last Stingers to achieve this level of excellence were Sylvia Sweeny and Liz Silcott in the 1977-78 season.
Barrett was also named MVP of the Quebec women's basketball conference at the end of February.
Barrett, a Brampton, Ont. native, is a leader in several of the RSEQ's statistical categories. With an average of 15.5 points a game, she is second in scoring. She is third in rebounding with an average of 6.5 a game and she leads the conference in steals with 2.1 a game.
Along with Quebec MVP honours, Barrett was named to the first all-star team. In 2011, she was also a first team all-star, the outstanding defensive player in the conference and the rookie of the year.
Barrett helped the Stingers finish in second place in conference play with an 8-8 win-loss record. Concordia won its semifinal game and lost a hard-fought contest to the McGill Martlets in the Quebec championship. She competed at the CIS West Regional tournament last week
