Internal memorandum

As you know, the University has in the past deducted 0.05% from all research salaries paid from research grants to cover the cost of short term disability benefits.

It has come to our attention that because of the rules governing deductions from grants, the University can no longer continue with this practice. As a result, as of October 05, 2012, the University is no longer charging the grant levy of 0.05% to salaries paid from research funds.

We continue to have an obligation to provide short term disability benefit (see HR-5 and HR-21), therefore, the cost for this benefit for eligible research employees will be covered by the University.

For further information please contact Angela Luciano at 4924 or Chao Ling Pan at 5761.
