2025-26 CSU Student Handbook – Statement of Correction

October 1, 2025
|

The 2025-26 Student Handbook, published by the Concordia Student Union (CSU), contains material that is not in keeping with Concordia University’s Code of Rights and Responsibilities and related policies.

  • Strike guide (pages 40–41): The section titled “Strike Guide” promotes behaviour that is prohibited under Article 43 of the Code: “Obstruction or disruption of teaching, research, administration, study, student disciplinary procedures or other University activity.” While members of the Concordia community are free to engage in peaceful and orderly protest, this must be done in a way that respects others and does not disrupt university activities.
  • Concealing identity (page 63): The Handbook also encourages students to conceal their identity in certain situations. This contradicts Article 26 of the Policy on Campus Public Safety and Security, which states: “The wearing of a mask or clothing with the intent to conceal one’s identity is not permitted.”
  • Encouragement of prohibited behaviour: Encouraging community members to engage in prohibited activities contravenes Article 30(c) of the Code, by “creating, or threatening to create, a condition that unnecessarily endangers or threatens the health, safety or well-being of another member or group of members.”
  • Respect and civility: The Student Handbook includes degrading descriptions of community members that are not in keeping with the Code’s grounding principles, which include civility and respect. All members of the community are encouraged to interact with one another in a civil, respectful manner.

Under the Policy on Student Associations and Groups, the CSU and all other student groups must make all reasonable efforts to promote the full participation of Concordia students in their activities.

Concerns about the content of the Student Handbook should be addressed directly to the CSU at feedback@csu.qc.ca.
