1. Enjoy some open-air theatre

À nous la rue | 375e anniversaire de Montréal | Quartier des spectacles | July 7-30

Throughout the month, the Quartier des spectacles will act as an open-air theatre, as 60 acting troupes converge on the streets to perform 800 free shows. With artists hailing from France, Spain, Australia, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, this event is the largest of its kind in North America.

2. Join a circus extravaganza

For 11 days this July, various plazas, parks and sidewalks will become circus venues as part of Montreal’s Complètement Cirque festival. From high-flying acrobatics to colourful theatrics and fun circus-related activities, there’s something for everyone.

3. Concordia researchers take to the streets 

Midis Ville-Marie | July to September | Locations and times vary

Don’t miss Midis Ville-Marie, a series of informal, participative street events featuring researchers from five Montreal institutes, including Concordia. Staged and presented by theatre students, these events will take place in nearly 20 public spaces around downtown Montreal.

Watch for Vivek Venkatesh, associate professor of education in the Faculty of Arts and Science, who will be “deconstructing hate, word by word” on July 26 at the Sir George Williams Campus.

Also, stay tuned for School of Community and Public Affairs professor Marguerite Mendell’s presentation on the economy, society and Montrealers, on August 29 in Jardins Gamelin. On September 6, political science professor Daniel Salée will present “Diversity, Citizenship and Living Together” in Charles S. Campbell Park.

4. Enjoy the good ol’ carnival days

In a nod to its history, Belmont Park will transform into a vintage amusement park one weekend this month. You’re invited to enjoy a country picnic, complete with a carousel, a giant slide, funhouse mirrors, fishing poles and a photo and video exhibition.

5. Take in the summer atmos-fair!

Festival Atmosph’air sur la Plaza 2017 | Plaza St-Hubert | July 5 to 9 starting at 10 a.m.

This month marks the eighth edition of Plaza St-Hubert’s sidewalk music festival, which will boast free outdoor concerts by both known and emerging artists. As an added perk, there will also be a street sale going on at the same time.
