In memoriam: Robert B. Nagy
After a long illness, Robert B. (Bob) Nagy died at his home in Delmar, New York, on September 10 at the age of 77.
Born in 1936 and educated in Montreal, Bob was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest for the diocese of Montreal in 1961. He worked devotedly in that capacity for many years, 16 of which were spent at Concordia: He was the director of the Loyola Campus Ministry from 1978 to his retirement from Concordia in 1994. In 1996 he requested and was granted a dispensation from his priestly vows, and thereafter married his wife, Mary Crangle, who survives him.
His colleagues remember Bob as modern, athletic, artistic, progressive and compassionate.
Alumnus and former fellow chaplain at Concordia Peter Côté remembers, “Meeting Bob then, and finding that community at Loyola, is what precipitated my own spiritual awakening as a young university student. Bob was an important part of the reason many students found a spiritual home there. Bob became a lifelong friend, and will be missed and mourned by many still at Concordia.”
