Loyola construction continues apace

Major masonry work to wrap up in early December

Students and faculty heading back to school this term will notice plenty of construction activity — from major masonry work to roof and window repairs — at the Loyola Campus.

Although interior noise and dust should be minimal, please call the Facilities Management Service Centre at 514-848-2424, ext. 2400, if the work is at all disruptive.

Hingston Hall

·      Hingston Hall A: Renovations to the community kitchen continue.

·      Hingston Hall B:

Washroom renovations will wrap up at the end of September; temporary washrooms will be installed for students at the beginning of the fall term.

Roof repairs are ongoing.

·      Hingston Hall C:

Construction of two new amphitheatres (to allow for tiered, 100-seat classrooms) will be ready in January.

Roof repairs are close to completion.

Psychology Building

  • Renovation of exterior stairs is complete.
  • Rebuilding of the exterior walls, including masonry work, is ongoing.
  • Major excavation to change the French drain will take place from mid-September to mid-November; the building’s perimeter will be cordoned off and the parking lot will be closed.
  • The balcony will be repaired in September.

F.C. Smith Building

  • Masonry work continues.

Administration Building

  • Masonry work continues.

Central Building

  • The staircase currently leading from the fourth floor to the second floor is being extended to the ground level. Exterior access is also being created, with the addition of an entryway on the south side of the building.
  • Masonry work continues.

Vanier Library

  • Some windows will be replaced in September and the first half of October.

 

Ed Meagher Arena

  • The new ice rink’s concrete slab, based on a carbon dioxide (CO2) refrigeration system,was poured on August 28.
  • The rebuilding of the locker rooms is underway.
  • The next phase involves installation of the rink’s boards, new windows and some mechanical equipment.
