You may be aware of media reports about how Quebec universities are addressing the reductions in their operating grants from the Government of Quebec. The government has permitted a degree of flexibility in this process by staggering a portion of the cuts over several years. Each university is making its budget decisions in a manner that best meets its needs, priorities and long-term goals.

At Concordia, we have made efforts over the last several years to eliminate our budget deficit. This prudent fiscal approach allows Concordia a bit more leeway in absorbing the operating grant cuts. The steps we take in the coming weeks will reflect who we are as a university and the progress we expect to make in fulfilling our academic mission in the years ahead.

We are working hard on our 2013-14 budget, which will be presented to the Board of Governors on April 26, 2013. Our priority is to protect our academic sector and services to students, and we will continue to keep our community informed of important developments.
