Concordia University’s Summer Accommodation program kicks off on Friday, May 11. The program invites members of the public to stay in residence (as they would a hotel) when visiting Montreal from abroad.

“We have three residence buildings: the Grey Nuns Mother House, the Jesuit Residence and Hingston Hall,” says Jordan Jenkins, coordinator of Summer Accommodation. “During the summertime we offer the residence rooms out to the public be they groups or just individual travellers.”

This year, Jenkins is pleased to announce that Summer Accommodation has expanded its guest capacity.

“We’ve been consistently growing over the last few years,” says Jenkins. “And now we’ve started to book out the Jesuit Residence on Loyola Campus in addition to adding  capacity downtown to accommodate increased demand.”

While renovations in Hingston Hall mean that Concordia can accommodate about 320 people this summer, the university will be able to accommodate about 500 people once these renovations are completed. The downtown Grey Nuns Mother House is available to the public, while the other two buildings on the university’s west-end Loyola Campus are reserved for conference or sports groups.

“We’re really trying to spread the word about the downtown public accommodation,” says Jenkins. “We like to call it the best-kept secret for cheap accommodation downtown.”

The opening of the Jesuit Residence for public accommodation follows the launch of the new Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre, a two-level conference centre which is the only space at Concordia dedicated solely for events for both the internal and external community.

Marie-France Watson, event planner and business officer with Concordia Conference Services, wants to build on the proximity of the two buildings. “For the summer months, we hope to work more closely with Summer Accommodation to offer multi-day conference packages by using the Jesuit Residence located but a few steps away from the centre,” says .

“We really believe that this expansion adds value for Concordia,” Jenkins explains. “Many of the country’s largest universities have a thriving program which brings people in: People who are interested in attending Concordia; people who love Montreal; people who are here because they have to be here for whatever reason — we really think it's a great service offered through Concordia residences.”
