While Concordia’s Centraide Campaign is officially over, one more major fundraising event is planned to celebrate the generosity of Concordians. The first annual Concordia Centraide Campaign Celebration Meal will be held on December 2 at four different locations.

Tickets are $10, and can be purchased until November 24 by contacting Sharon McLean (extension 3497, smclean@alcor.concordia.ca) or Filomena De Gennaro (extension 2650, gennaro@alcor.concordia.ca). Participants should mention if they would like a vegetarian meal. All participants will be entered in a draw to win a pair of tickets to a Montreal Canadiens game.

At the final Centraide Pasta Luncheon on November 17, Concordia President Frederick Lowy and Vice-President, Institutional Relations and Secretary General Bram Freedman were on hand to serve pasta. Afterward, they handed out the grand prizes from the raffle as well as the autographed Montreal Canadiens hockey stick.

“The university has a 40-year-old commitment to Centraide, and we’ve always done ourselves proud,” said Lowy. “Last year we had our best result ever, and I hope that we can have a good result again this year.”

So far this year, Concordia has raised $179,000, just shy of its goal of $200,000. Freedman says the final numbers will not be tallied until mid-December. “I’m hopeful,” he said when asked if he thought the goal would be reached.

The Office of the Vice-President, Institutional Relations and Secretary General took over the Centraide Campaign from the President’s Office two years ago, and Freedman says he looks forward to running the campaign again next year.

“I have a great team, and we decided it was something we wanted to do to give back to the community. I just think it’s a very important initiative, and it’s also something that I enjoy doing,” he said.

The Concordia Centraide Campaign steering committee included Nancy Curran, Gerry Jones, Jay Mazzamauro, Elena Raznovan, Miriam Posner, Enza De Cubellis and Linda Hubert. The committee was supported by 25 Centraide ambassadors working in the various departments on both campuses.

Concordia’s campaign is part of the larger Centraide of Montreal Campaign, which aims to raise $59 million this year. The money raised is distributed among 360 community agencies that help support over half-a-million people.
