Beginning this fall, more students will be able to take advantage of free math tutoring sessions thanks to the new math and learning lab, or ML2.

While Counselling and Development has been training students to offer peer-led tutoring sessions for a number of years, “This is the first time we have had our own space dedicated to math tutoring,” says Uchenna Mgbemena, a learning and study skills specialist.

The space will increase the availability of individual tutoring sessions and provide space for group study sessions for introductory economics courses. Math tutor Rosslon Ollivierre adds, “One of the really great things about the design layout is that each student and tutor meets in a private individual area, free from distractions.”

“We try to target courses that students find difficult and set up support through our three tiers of help: tutoring for math, writing and basic science; study groups for introductory economics courses; and strategic learning (interactive group study sessions) for some science and geography courses,” says Juliet Dunphy, manager of student learning services.

One hour tutoring appointments are available to work on course material, prepare for tests or provide help working through difficult concepts. Courses supported include Math 200, Math 201, Math 203, Math 204, Math 205, Math 206, Math 208, Math 209, Comm 215, Comm 217 and Comm 305.

ML2 is located in Room H-460, Henry F. Hall Building (1455 De Maisonneuve Blvd W.), with appointments starting at 10 a.m., Monday to Friday.
