On Monday, September 26, a crane will be installed on the east side of the Guy-Metro (GM) Building (next to the laneway) as construction crews begin to remove concrete panels from the building.

The crane will move to the center of the building approximately two weeks later, at which time the entrance of the Guy-Metro Building will be relocated to 1515 Ste-Catherine Street West (the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex).

Lastly, the crane will move to the west side of the building, on the corner Guy Street and De Maisonneuve Blvd. Total renovation time is expected to be about five weeks.

The garage, accessed via the laneway from De Maisonneuve or Mackay, will remain open throughout the construction, though there is a possibility of temporary closures while the crane carries materials overhead. A flagman will assure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles, and scaffolding will be installed outside the building to create protective passageways for pedestrians.

As the work moves around the building’s exterior, occupants will continue to be temporarily relocated. Signage in the lobby and on all floors will indicate changes in office locations. All visitors to the GM Building should verify their destination before setting out. The Facilities Management team will update the online directory as required.
