The Student Success Centre is looking for 15 students who will offer support and guidance to fresh, new incoming Concordia students.

The selected students will work 10 to 12 hours a week providing peer support for students making the transition to university. Mentors will be put in contact with these students to answer questions, address fears and offer successful strategies to tackle the new school year.

“They can help students find groups and associations that they might want to join,” says Marlene Gross, the Manager of the Services for New Students and the Student Success Program. “They can even help them network if they have the resources. It can be as simple as helping a student who is having a hard time with a roommate.”

The mentors will participate in personal development workshops such as crisis management, listening skills and team building sessions. These workshops are designed to enrich their own personal development, and support them in their mentoring role.

“It’s not about being a good student either,” she says. “It’s also about being someone who is involved in different communities on campus. We want someone who reflects the diversity of the school.”

She stresses that they are looking for students from all ages and various Faculties who can juggle school and remain active in the campus community. This opportunity is not limited to Quebec students. Gross says they are also looking for out-of-province students, undergrads, graduates and even international students.

To apply, students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and must have completed a minimum of 24 credits. Submissions will be accepted until the end of April.
