September 20, 2010 - The John Molson School of Business' (JMSB) case competition season is off to an incredible start. The Alberta Energy Challenge team represented by JMSB students, Benoit Chevrier, Jonathan Ruel, Christopher Labreque, and Alain Grenier, are on their way back to Montreal with a first place finish.

The Alberta Energy Challenge is a one of a kind research case where participants are put in a real life situation with company consultants introducing new information throughout the 36 hour preparation period. A total of ten teams from across Canada and the U.S. took part in the inaugural event. The final results of the competition are as follows:

First place:    John Molson School of Business
Second place:     University of Saskatchewan
Third place:    Penn State

Lead coach Amr Ezzat was proud of the results and said: “We won the preliminaries and the team delivered a fantastic presentation containing 150 slides. The students presented a solid case with great depth. The team also did a fantastic job in the finals; the intensity of the presentation made for an uninterrupted opening and closing. The Question and Answer period was filled with great questions and comments. To top it off, there was great chemistry with all teams, judges and organizing committee.”

The team represented the school with great pride and strengthened the JMSB name in industry.

Both the John Molson Competition Committee and JMSB’s community congratulate and thank the team for all their hard work and achievements; as well as coaches Amr Ezzat who accompanied the students through their intense training and trip to Edmonton; Mark Haber advisor and head coach; Steven Bento; Christian Bonneau; and Ian Selvarajah for sharing their experience with similar format competitions.
