It announces that the open-access press, the first at a university in Quebec, has begun accepting submissions for scholarly book proposals. The article includes a picture of Concordia librarian Guylaine Beaudry and Concordia University Press editor-in-chief Geoffrey Little. Beaudry and Little are quoted, as are provost Graham Carr and Concordia University Part-Time Faculty Association president David Douglas. - The Montreal Gazette writes about two recent charity events at Concordia it says established records for student aid at the university: the 20th Concordia used-book fair, which raised a record $16,414 for student scholarships and aid, and last month's Concordia Shuffle, whose more-than-600 participants walked, ran and cycled to raise another $84-thousand. Two Concordia staffers, Janine Lavallée and Louise Morgan, with the Advancement and External Relations office, are pictured at the Shuffle finish line. The story appears also in the Gazette's e-edition and is linked to by World News Report.
- An article in La Presse + and LaPresse.ca about the refusal by a professor at the University of Toronto to use gender-neutral pronouns in the presence of transgender people reports that Concordia has adopted a policy of allowing the use, in certain circumstances, of first names other than those appearing on a person's birth certificate.
- Iran's recent detainment of Homa Hodfar is mentioned in two articles from the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran.
