Students
Current students at Concordia do outstanding academic work and get involved in community projects that improve our quality of life. See what they've been up to:
- Policy Options runs an article by communications PhD candidate Cherry Smiley, a 2016 Trudeau Scholar, who writes about the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Smiley warns that there is a risk the inquiry may not properly address issues specific to young Indigenous girls.
- Nation Talk posts a release from the UofMosaic Fellowship Program, an initiative of the Mosaic Institute, listing Concordia among the nine Canadian universities where students have been selected as UofMosaic Fellows. The Mosaic Institute posts biographical notes for the Concordia students among this year's Fellows: Aranija Kathiresu, Julie Hoang, Vicky Theodore and Jason Poirier Lavoie.
- The Toronto Sun (reprised by the Edmonton Sun) and the Peterborough Examiner write an editorial and MyToba.ca posts a commentary about the case of an unidentified Concordia student who has learned that she is being stripped of her Canadian citizenship because of alleged misrepresentations by her mother on her own citizenship application, a decade ago. The Concordian's story is also reported by Global News.
- The Toronto Star, writing about women who have decided to turn away from oral contraceptives, talks to Concordia art student Katy Benedict about the mood swings she says resulted from her own use of the pill. The article is reprised by Metro News and the North Bay Nipissing News.
- Bay Today describes last Friday's 6-0 win by the Stingers men's hockey team over the Lakers, in Nipissing.
- Les Tubbies announces an upcoming show in Montreal of the samba-reggae band Grupo Terrato, led by singer Cesar Rezer, currently in the final year of a BFA at Concordia.
