• Curbed, writing about urban heat islands, references a 2012 Concordia study led Hashem Akbari, professor in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Damon Matthews, associate professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, and Donny Seto, lecturer in the same department. The study describes how white rooftops and light-colored pavements could help decrease atmospheric temperature in urban areas and potentially offset some of the anticipated temperature increase caused by global warming.
