Various issues concerning Concordia University are often reported on by news outlets. Here is the most recent coverage pertaining to the institution:
- Coverage continues of the arrest in Iran of retired Concordia anthropology professor Homa Hoodfar, held since June 6 in Evin prison: Amnesty International (in German) calls for Hoodfar's immediate release; iPolitics writes that Hoodfar is a pawn in a struggle for influence between liberals and reactionaries in Iran. It says her detention is part of an effort to undermine Iranian president Hassan Rouhani's drive to liberalize the country's internal politics; La Presse Canadienne, Journal Métro and The Suburban report that there has been no communication with Hoodfar since her arrest more than a week ago; Elder of Zion posts a news brief (toward the bottom of the page) relating to the Hoodfar arrest and the dangers faced by dual nationals in Iran.
- The Suburban writes about a recent event to raise awareness and funds for anti-radicalization education. It notes the event was organized by Heidi Berger, an instructor at Concordia's Centre for Continuing Education and head of the Foundation for the Compulsory Study of Genocide in Schools. It notes also the participation of Frank Chalk, professor in the Department of History and director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) at Concordia. Chalk spoke about the MIGS Digital Mass Atrocity Prevention Program, established to counter online incitement to genocide and extremism. Chalk and Berger are quoted.
- Les Affaires reports on a recent media tour of the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace — the new pavilion at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts on Bishop Street, set to open in November. The report notes that the Pavilion for Peace includes an art therapy studio, developed in partnership with Concordia's Department of Creative Arts Therapies.
- Canada Standard, Toronto Telegraph and Big News Network list president Alan Shepard among the notables on hand for yesterday's keynote speech by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova at the 22nd International Economic Forum of the Americas.
- Wtoutiao (in Chinese) lists tuition fees of leading Canadian universities for full-time international students in arts and humanities programs. The Concordia international fee is listed at between $14,956 and $16,701. The article references Statistics Canada as the source of the figures.
